Playfish Cash Cards and Products as gifts for Christmas

Running out of ideas on what to give someone for Christmas? Playfish gave me a couple ideas in a newsletter I received today in my email. One of the Christmas gift ideas from Playfish were Playfish Cash Cards and the other Playfish Apparel and Products.

Playfish Cash Cards are basically cash cards in which you can redeem Playfish Cash. It’s sort of like a long distance calling card where you scratch off the bar on the back to reveal a PIN code which allows you to use the card. With the PIN code you can enter it on the Playfish.com website to redeem your Playfish Cash. The Playfish Cash can be used not only on Pet Society but other Playfish games such as Restaurant City, Crazy Planets, Country Store, and Poker Rivals. As of now you can only purchase Playfish Cash Cards in the US or UK. In the UK you can purchase them at Sainsbury’s or WHSmith and in the US you can purchase at any Walgreens location.

It’s too bad most of my friends don’t play Pet Society otherwise I’d buy these Playfish Cash Cards for them in a second. I guess they’ll have to settle for the green knit sweaters I’ve been working on since Thanksgiving.

Another gift idea from Playfish is its Playfish Apparel and Products, which can be purchased through Zazzle.com. They sell all sorts of items from bags, t-shirts, coffee mugs and even mouse pads. I personally like the Pet Society Golden Poop T-shirt and the Pet Society Chiwawa pet t-shirt. I would think they would sell a Rainbow Poop T-shirt as well but didn’t find one.

What Pet Society needs to do is allow players to purchase apparel with our own pets on them. If they did this I think they would sell like hotcakes. Imagine if you had a t-shirt or hooded sweater with your pet on it, you would be the talk of the town! Of course anyone can actually do this, all you need is an image of your pet, then bring it to any t-shirt printing company to have it printed. But if Playfish made an e-commerce store and had everything automated and connected through the game I believe it would be a win-win situation for everybody. That would be cool, having a new store in Pet Society where we can create and order our own Playfish products. If this ever comes out in Pet Society, remember you heard it from me first!

Playfish Cash Cards at Walgreens

Holy moley! Playfish Cash Cards are now available at Walgreens in the United States. The next time you pick up your meds, shampoo or toothpaste, you can treat yourself to either a $10 or $25 card, good for buying Playfish Cash.

This is a HUGE development for Playfish and the social games industry overall. Spending real money on an imaginary jacuzzi or a Halloween “mummy fish” will no longer be thought of as weird or fringe behavior. Clearly, you’ve arrived in mainstream, middle America when your product is displayed next to Hershey bars and cards for Target and McDonald’s.

Initial reactions by fans are positive. Despite grumblings by a few who’ve nicknamed the company “Payfish,” many gamers are rushing out to their neighborhood Walgreens, spurred by the cuteness factor of the pink and blue plastic.

Two weeks ago, I conducted a poll asking how much money you spend on Pet Society. Out of more than 1,000 respondents, 15% reported spending $20 or more each month. But a whopping 85% of you said you didn’t spend a dime. I wonder how these cards will affect those numbers in the next several months. I’m sure it’s no accident that the cards just happen to come in time for the holidays—stocking stuffers, anyone?

Nannybots in Pet Society

Yesterday, Playfish released the new Nannybots that will feed, clean and play with your pet 24 hours a day. Nannybots are sold at the Gadget and Furniture Shops for 400 coins, and Playfish has even thrown in a free battery good for three days. However, if you want to recharge it, you’ll need to fork over some real money–5 Playfish coins.

My pet Sushi got a chance to meet the Nannybot during a visit to his friend Baylee. The scene above, which looks like he’s being hit with a toaster, actually raises his health level. Here are two more scenes:

Cute, huh? The Nannybot will prevent your pet from getting tired, hungry and surrounded by flies and poop. If you’re going on vacation or are just too busy to log into the game, the Nannybot may be a good solution. That is, if you care THAT much about your virtual pet.

Personally, this is a reminder that I need to spend more time with my REAL pet. I’m currently on a three-day break and my nine-year-old cat, the poor thing, is home all alone. Guilt, guilt, guilt.
